The Big Buddha Temple or Phra Phuttha Ming Mongkol Aeknakkiri Located on the top of Nak Kerd Mountain, Karon Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District, Phuket Province. It is a white Buddha image in the subduing Mara posture. The building is outstandingly beautiful, with a width of 25 meters and a height of 45 meters. Constructed of reinforced concrete decorated with Burmese white jade marble, the weight of white jade marble is approximately 135 tons per 2,500 square meters.
This temple took almost a decade to build, worth up to 30 million baht. This was caused by the cooperation of people in the community to donate money for the construction to create a place of worship and a spiritual center of Phuket Buddhists. Wat Kitti Sangkharam (Wat Kata) was the operator of the construction. This temple is intended to be a Buddhist park with beautiful shady landscapes. It is a place to practice meditation and is also a tourist destination. The Big Buddha Temple is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., located in the southern part of Phuket.
Highlight of the Big Buddha
On the top of the mountain, you can still see the view from the base of the Buddha statue, which is a 360-degree viewpoint. You can see all around Phuket and the islands including Kata Beach, Karon Beach, Chalong Bay etc. From below, you can see Khao Nagakerd, a high mountain with a beautiful Buddha image. In the area around the Buddha image, there are various birthday amulets and many famous monks, including Luang Pu Suang, Luang Pu Man, Jatukham Ramathep, to pay homage to.
How to get to the Big Buddha,
It is about 1 hour from Phuket Airport, about 6 kilometers uphill, all kinds of vehicles can drive up to Big Buddha Temple.
